The recent questions that our customers make were, “How many coats of paint do you apply on the wall?”

The answer is basically 2 coats of paint. Why do we apply 2 coats is because this is the best number of coat of paint that will bring out the colour and economical for the client.

There are instances where we have to use 3 coats, the first coat is the base coat of white, usually will use Nippon Matex. Then follow by 2nd and 3rd coat of paint, the clients choose. The reason for having the 3 coats is because the current wall colour is strong like black or bright red, and the colour that the client wants to have is a different colour.

Another example is that we need to use sealer as base painting, it may be due to old walls, moist walls, etc…

When we have made an appointment with the painting services prospects who want to paint their home/ office/ property. Here are what we will ask the house or office owners:

1) Type of paint. There are a lot of different brands of paint, like Nippon or ICI, which are the ones we prefer to use.

2) Colour of paint. Once the type of paint has been decided. It’s down to choosing the paint colours. There are usually more than 20 different colours to choose from a type of paint. Once the colour has been decided, we will take note of the colour code, and note down which wall to paint which colour.

3) Inspect the wall condition. We will also go around the house to check on the condition of the walls. This is because that if the walls are not in good condition to paint, we will need to do plastering to it, or paint it over a couple of times. This will also determine the cost of painting.

4) Expected date of start. The owner to inform us when to start the painting. A rough date range will do.

5) Send quotation (optional). Once the above is done. Quotation will be send to the interested painting party. We will only send the quotation upon request.

When I was in primary school, there was this story in one of my Chinese textbook, it talks about a man who has a problematic wooden door, it can’t be locked.

Thinking that Singapore is such a safe place to live in, he decided to ignore this seemingly petty problem, and go about doing his normal work and activities daily. I received a call today from a lady who has engaged a painting contractor, and the painter (1 painter) came yesterday with a beer bottle, drinking, started work for a while then disappeared for a couple of hours. It is our company policy that we try NOT to take up painting jobs from other painting contractors who did not do a good job on the owner’s house. But she seemed quite desperate and is in the marriage period, so I tried my best to help her in any way. So I promised that I will get back to her in less than an hour after my discussion with my partner. My partner agreed to help, so I called her straight away to offer the help, but we need to view the house first, before we can start work but only on the very next day.

But the husband was not agreeable because they are running out of time and decided to stick to the unprofessional painting contractor.

I must say that a lot of painting contractors and renovation contractors in Singapore are quite unprofessional in their work. That is due to using of cheap painting services in Singapore. This is for those of you who have furniture in your home or office, and needed our painting services. Good news for you is that our painting contractors will always cover your beloved furniture from paint, especially while we are painting the ceilings. Droplets of paint which sometimes is almost invisible to our naked eye.

Most of the time, the ceilings are painting in white, unless the owner has special request will we use different colour for the ceiling.

Back to the topic, we will always use a plastic sheet called “Plastic Drop Cloth“, which is usually a 9 by 12 feet in length and breadth. What this Plastic Drop Cloth does is to protect against paint spills and splashes, or even protect vehicles and furniture from dust and dirt.

It is a non slip, waterproof plastic cloth, which is easily spread out. It can be found in most of the paint stores in Singapore, and it is relatively cheap, it will cost around  $1.20 to $1.50. For those of you who wants to DIY painting your home, should seriously consider using this for your furniture protection.
